Hey Mama

Hey, hey mama, why you walk like that
You got your shoulders bent and your eyes tucked under your hat
It's got you worried you always gonna say something wrong
And you haven't been yourself in way too long
Let's go
Hey, hey mama, why you sit so quiet
While your life around you has turned into a riot
It's got you on your knees, it's got you bending backwards
And you wonder if you're crazy, but it's not you
All right
Hey, hey mama, time to wipe those tears
Time to pick up the pieces and face your fears
Yeah, you've got a voice
Time to use it
Time to get out of your mind before you lose it
Let's go

Paranoia
04:41
|

It’s Sunday evening she feels a little restless
So she rides her bike downtown to catch a show
She knows she’ll run into some folks, but her intention is to blend into the paintings on the wall
She’s looking over her shoulder from an ingrained force of habit
But tells herself it’s paranoia
He’s pulled into the parking lot before she even parked
He’s sitting there waiting and waiting and waiting
Falling into rhythm she moves up a little closer, and he closes in behind her at the bar
The whiskey flows over his rocks as he politely chats about the oppressive heat with his barkeep
Contemplating the outcome of an interruption
He thinks this time that he just might
He opts instead to leave his token of affection
No interruption, just watching and waiting
He spends a whiskey filled evening like this every now and again
He wraps his arms around her and holds her head still while his spins
He tells her all his fantasies and waits for her to give in
And in the morning his blacked out reveries fade to the background again
It’s paradise inside his head, purgatory at his home, and living hell everywhere else
He’s cast his line out into choppy waters far from shore
Where he’s told the catch is best
No problem here, but even if there was, it would only be because of travesties placed onto him
After all, it’s not his fault that he’s still waiting for the things he feels are owed to him
He just wants what’s his
He just wants what’s his

To Whom it May Concern
05:31

Dearest sir, you may not remember meeting me last night
It was me with that slip down the stairs that gave you quite a fright
That miserable wedding day weather could not have been worse
I guess it's good luck when things don't turn out the way you rehearsed
I was thinking it might be nice to take you out on the river
They're calling for sun, so this time the weather should deliver
It's not hard to let my mind entertain the various ends
If only I could get up the nerve to hit the little green send
I'd like like to take these words out of my head
But I know I'll walk away instead
I could give you all of my heart, but I think I'll leave it unsaid
Dearest madame, I just want to say how lovely it was to meet you
It took effort to take my eyes off you when they said "I do"
The rain was a wedding day damper, but I barely recall it
When I helped you up from the stairs, I knew for you I was falling
I'd like to take this thing off of my chest
But I know I'll walk away instead
You could change my whole world, nonetheless
I think I'll leave it unsaid
To whom it may concern, I thought I'd drop you a line
I've been waiting and waiting around, but no one's shown me a sign
The summer's are nice here, but I don't know where to start
I guess the best things in life come to those who follow their heart
The snares are sharp and pitfalls deep
But it's better than a life asleep
And although there are things in life that are best left unsaid
The world is full of indecision
And there's too much hesitation
And not enough of the things better left unsaid

Winterfire
03:26
|
|||
The springtime's over and the summertime's coming
And the bell's ring in the street
I got a picnic basket full of watermelon
And sweet tea in a cup
And your lips, they taste like peppermint
Or sometimes like a glass of cherry wine
But when my cup runs empty, you're not around
To come and fill me up
Baby cause I love you, and you love me
But only in the summertime
When the leaves are soft and the nights are sweet
And everything is going fine
But baby then I need you, I need you
When the frost starts to bite
So come on over with your eyes and your apple pie
And we can keep the fire bright
Oh just like the sun with it's promise in June
You came and swept me off my feet
But your fickle heart froze over with the wind
when November came along
But with a little luck now, lover
I know that we can see this winter through
The cold is better when there's two of us
So come and warm me up

Drive
05:19
|
|||
It’s four o’clock in the morning
I have an aching head
The whiskey’s ice melted hours ago
It’s hard to explain
How we’re right back here again
But the writing’s getting clearer on the wall
I can’t get warm or sleep here
Now the cold comes from within
And keys are shining brightly on the hook
I don’t think I can stay
I don’t know where I’ll go
I need some midnight air to clear my head.
Because It’s far too late for talking
And I can’t fight anymore
And sleep won’t come for hours
So I’ll just drive
Drive until the morning
Down to the river’s edge
The questions swirl around like hungry flies
Can we find our way back home
Is there something left to save
Or will silence once again stave off the storm
A river has its reasons
For never standing still
Washing all the poisons out to sea
I think it’s time to leave here
It doesn’t matter where I go
It took me long enough but I came around.
Because it’s far too late for talking
And I won’t cry anymore
And nothing’s changing here
So I’ll just drive

White Noise
06:44
|
|||
Listless
Laying with a loaded gun
And you think you control the room, but you're just a prop
Call the cops
Cut the cord and clear the room
So you can have a tale to tell when you wake up
It's a frantic kind of feeling, trailing off in quiet conversation
While you're stealing points of view from everyone but yourself
You load them one by one, and point them like a gun into the vacuum
Never realizing that your efforts are just white noise
Candid
When it comes to easy wins
Blended artfully into your narrative
Honest lies you tell yourself to help you sleep
With that silky smile that I always loved
Well you can wipe it right off your face
Judgements handed down
You beat them like a drum into your circles
While the only one who's hearing anything is yourself
On and on and on, you're building up your revenant militia
Marching them like horses off the cliff into the white noise
Tested
Tied up in a tongue-tied knot
And the more you run, the further behind you fall
Fearless, free with your faulted facts
Swirling like a virus in the white noise

Duplicity
04:40
|
|||
When I kiss your lips
I surrender
i feel the poison course through my veins
I feel dizzy
Like some reaction to a bad, bad drug
You’re no good
But I don’t want better
I’m addicted now to this sin
And if we die
I don’t want heaven
Because I know they’ll never let you in
Like a virus
I’ve got it bad now
You only want me when it suits you best
You keep me busy with sugar-laced duplicity
As the fever sets in
When you’ve used me
You put me down
And leave me useless like a hollow shell
But if I’m sick
I don’t want to get better
Because I know that you cannot be the cure
I’ve been wondering what could be so bad about eternal damnation
Cause I’m familiar with some sinners and they seem like they’d be good company
And if you never wake up from a night of sin
Does the hangover ever really set in
I’ll take my chances
Hand me the cup
I’ll sign my name
Your touch is sweet
I live in the moment
And for the moment that’s enough for me
Why have water
When it can be turned into whiskey or wine
I pity the saints
For they’ll never know you
Never taste the sweet sin of your kiss
If there’s a heaven
I don’t want to get there
Because I know they’ll never let you in

Circles
05:38
|
|||
Searing star, deafening heat
You don't know where you found it
Embers fade, as your eyes fall shut
You'd better learn how to keep it
Clasp your fist o'er a ball of light
Water leaks through your fingers
You're standing in a swirling flood
And only darkness lingers
Falling fast into a deep abyss
Until it spits you out again
Find your feet on your broken bones
Peer out o'er the edge again

The Crow (Remix)
04:49

The gloaming pulses with the swirling memories of a Sunday painted red
Now she's driving down the milky moonlit highway with a pounding in her head
The crystal water beckons warm and silent, but she shakes with frigid cold
The night will come and overtake her
Before the story gets old
And now by day she hides in silence, and when the night comes she can breathe
No one around to see the damage, and there's a stillness in her head
Her silence here engages no one, and she likes it better that way
She'll fly away when she sees movement, and you'll lose her in the fray
Oo, do you love her
Oo, do you want to know her
Oo, but you turn and walk away
